Meditation & Stress Management

Mindfulness or meditation can be a powerful tool for reducing the impact of stress on the body.

Meditation provides the nervous system with a rest that is 5 times more deep than sleep and studies have shown that mindfulness results in:
〰️ decreased cortisol secretion
〰️ increased GABA secretion, our calming neurotransmitter
〰️ increased parasympathetic nervous system activity, aka our rest & digest system

Many people find committing to a meditation practice to be overwhelming, or something that they don't have enough time for. However just 10 minutes of mindfulness or meditation daily can reduce stress, anxiety and pain and increase feelings of connection. An easy way to incorporate a meditation practice into your day is to use an app such as Headspace or Smiling Mind, and start with 5 minutes on your commute to work or before bed.
